The Studio @ Glynde opened in early 2017 and focuses on empowering people to transform their lives through dance movement, fitness, motivation and education.

We are passionate about improving the wellbeing of our clients through maximising their movement potential.

Beginners Pilates Mat Course

Learn the basics of Pilates Mat exercises in a safe, supportive environment at The Studio located in Glynde.

Our signature 5-week course, written by PPP’s Founder and Principal Physiotherapist, Rachel Combe (who has over 20 years of Pilates and physiotherapy experience) has been taught over a number of years and always proves popular.

Dance Pilates 4 Week Course

This course is suitable for dance students 12+ years old and dance teachers. A comprehensive Pilates course where we cover all aspects of dance conditioning.

This course is designed to give you the experience to then attend our ongoing Mat, Barre and Reformer classes to further refine technique, improve your core and general muscle conditioning.

About the Director


When Rachel qualified as a physiotherapist in 1997 she began to explore the benefits of Pilates in the dance population, having done 18 years of classical ballet herself. After having worked in Outback Australia for Broken Hill Hospital and Royal Flying Doctors Service, Rachel moved to Cambridge, UK where she gained her accreditation as a Pilates Trained Practitioner.

When she moved back to Adelaide in July 2002, Rachel opened Physio Pilates Proactive which now has branches in Stirling, Parkside and The Studio at Glynde. Rachel also holds many Pilates qualifications including:

  • Certificate IV in Pilates Instruction
  • Diploma in Professional Pilates Practice
  • DMA Accredited Pilates Practitioner
  • Certified Polestar Pilates Practitioner in Rehabilitation and Mat

She regularly mentors on internationally recognised Polestar Pilates courses held in Adelaide and is highly respected in the Adelaide Pilates community.

Rachel has a special interest in dance injury management and frequently treats dancers’ injuries and teaches technique enhancement.

Physiotherapy


Dance Specific

We are highly experienced physio’s, many of whom have a special interest in dance injuries and their management.

  • Patella-femoral pain syndrome and other knee injuries

    Our physiotherapists are skilled to offer the full range of treatment techniques including gentle mobilisation, massage, ultrasound and western acupuncture/dry needling.

    With a focus on empowering patients to manage their own rehabilitation, they can prescribe tailored exercises and strategies to build strength and alleviate pain.

    The principles and benefits of the Pilates method go hand-in-hand with this self-management approach, preventing further problems and injuries by retraining weakened or misused muscles to work as they should.

    Dance Technique Enhancement


    Exclusive to Physio Pilates Proactive at The Studio, we offer 30 minute technique enhancement sessions which 2 – 4 dancers can attend at the same time.

    Specific topics include:

    • Turnout
    • Flexibility
    • Core strength
    • Footwork
    • Upper body strength
    • Jump training
    • Balance
    • Hyper-mobility
    • Pre-pointe preparation

    Dancers choose one of the above topics and the 30 minute session focuses on teaching home exercises. Written exercise sheets are provided to facilitate accurate self-practice.

    Assessments, Lectures and Workshops


    Our physios are able to conduct Tertiary Dance Council assessments, Pre-pointe assessments and general dance screening assessments. A comprehensive report is given to the dancer after every assessment enabling specific recommendations to be passed on to dance teachers and other health professionals.

    Rachel Combe, Director and Principal Dance Physiotherapist is available for lectures on safe dance practice, anatomy basics and injury management. She also can teach workshops to targeted dance populations such as younger children through to more advanced older dancers.

    Pilates


    Dance Pilates

    PPP is excited to offer two Dance-related Workshops.

    Our 2 hour Dance Pilates Introductory Workshop is a condensed version of Rachel Combe’s unique 5-week Dance-specific Pilates Mat course and is designed to enhance all types of dance technique, improve core strength and facilitate stronger, healthier dance practice.

    Ready to start pointe? Rachel Combe, Physio Pilates Proactive’s Director and Principal Physiotherapist, has over 18 years of classical ballet experience and will be running her 2-hour Prepare for Pointe Workshops in the school holidays as well as some Sunday afternoons.

    Pilates for Kids

    Suitable for 8-12 year olds, this 5 week course teaches the basics of Pilates in a fun way and is designed to improve postural awareness but also enhance dance and sport technique.

    General Pilates

    Our signature 5 week course has been extremely popular over the years and teaches participants the basic repertoire of Pilates Mat exercises. At the end of the course, participants can continue attending our variety of ongoing classes. For current course dates, times and bookings please consult our website.

    Please note that all of our classes are claimable with most private health funds under physiotherapy extras however participants are required to attend a physiotherapy initial assessment due to health fund regulations.

    As an alternative to our courses, participants can instead attend a series of 1-3 Pilates individual Mat sessions and commence ongoing classes after this.
