Physio Treatments

What to Expect

Prior to any physical treatment you will have a thorough assessment, involving questions and a physical examination. Your condition and any recommended treatment is explained, and your consent is gained before any treatment is begun.

The core skills used by physiotherapists include a wide range of drug-free techniques to relieve pain, restore function and movement, and prevent further problems including:

  • hands-on treatment (eg. soft-tissue release, massage, mobilisation, trigger point)
  • western acupuncture/dry needling
  • postural and movement correction
  • exercise prescription
  • ergonomic advice
  • prescription of mobility aids, braces, supports, etc
  • application of other techniques such as ultrasound, taping, heat/cold

On average, 2-6 sessions are required with a physiotherapist to correct a movement disorder. This depends on each client and their individual condition. Your physio can usually give you an idea on how many sessions will be required at your first visit and will tell you when treatment is no longer required. In most cases it is not our goal to continue treatment on an ongoing, or ‘maintenance’ basis. We aim to ultimately cease treatment and recommend a continued self-management program which may include Pilates or other corrective exercises

What we Treat

Virtually any condition that affects your muscles, joints, or nerves can be helped by physiotherapy. At Physio Pilates Proactive we are primarily a musculoskeletal clinic. This means we predominantly treat and prevent injuries or disorders of the spinal and peripheral joints, muscles, nerves, ligaments, tendons, bones and other soft tissues.

Each of our physiotherapists has their own special interests. Please feel free to discuss your condition with our friendly administration staff who can determine which of our physiotherapists is best suited to your needs.
